EliGE learned Portuguese to leave Liquid, according to Pimp
On the Hot Take Point Made podcast, Jacob "Pimp" Winneche said that Liquid veteran Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski was learning Portuguese while the two were teammates. The Dane, who played on Liquid with EliGE in 2016 and 2017, stated that EliGE's "dream" was to join a Portuguese team.
The Danish analyst revealed that EliGE could be "passive-aggressive" in a team setting. According to Pimp, EliGE would bring up that point in team arguments, saying, "He basically said, 'You can all go f*** yourselves. I'm leaving for a Portuguese team as soon as I can. As soon as I learn the language, I'm out.' I'm kind of surprised he never pursued it."
Pimp speculated that the American's Portuguese level never got to the point where he felt he could play in a team of Portuguese speakers.
Whatever may have happened, EliGE spent over eight years with Liquid during his first stint, leaving for Complexity in June 2023. From there, he joined FaZe in January 2025 before returning to Liquid in September of that year.
EliGE and Liquid are currently playing at IEM Beijing, with the PGL Major Singapore looming.
